G7 agrees to release 100 million barrels of diesel and oil; Trump drops diesel export ban

Group of Seven countries agreed Friday to release 100 million barrels of diesel and crude oil from emergency reserves through the International Energy Agency and pledged to refrain from energy export restrictions among themselves, Reuters reported, after pressure from President Trump. The release is to begin immediately and last four months, with a substantial amount of diesel due within 20 days; the joint statement did not break out crude versus diesel volumes by country. Trump told reporters before departing for Alabama that the United States would not impose a diesel export ban, saying Europe would make a “major world contribution,” after earlier warning that failure to tap stocks could bring a U.S. ban.
