Cook County, Illinois, and Connecticut filed briefs this week asking the Supreme Court to uphold their bans on AR-15s and similar semiautomatic rifles, arguing the guns are not ordinary firearms, the Washington Examiner reported. The justices will hear the consolidated cases Viramontes v. Cook County and Grant v. Higgins in December and decide whether the bans violate the Second or 14th Amendments.
