The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize to South African jurist Navi Pillay, the former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, "for her efforts to promote peace and international law." At a Friday night rally in Syracuse, New York, Trump said the prize went to "a liberal person who works at the United Nations" and that the United States, represented by him, should have received it. Pillay later chaired a UN Commission of Inquiry on Israel and the Palestinian territories, a body that has drawn sharp criticism from Israel, The Jerusalem Post reported.
