Trump administration begins mailing $500 ACA refund checks to nearly 1 million Americans
Treasury Department checks of $500, with letters signed by President Donald Trump, are set to begin going out Wednesday, Sept. 30, to more than 950,000 Americans across 30 states that use the federal Affordable Care Act exchange, USA TODAY reported, citing an administration official. A Sept. 10 White House fact sheet said the refunds return what the administration calls Biden-era Obamacare exchange “user fee” overcharges to enrollees who largely paid full premiums without premium assistance, with checks originally slated to begin in October. Trump’s letter, obtained by USA TODAY, tells recipients the Biden administration “overcharged you to fund the operation of HealthCare.gov” and that “that money belongs to hard-working Americans, not the Government.”
