Update: Trump says he offered Iran ‘NOTHING’; Tehran still awaits Hormuz reply
President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social on Monday that reports he was willing to ease sanctions and release frozen Iranian funds were “untrue,” saying, “I offered them NOTHING,” Reuters reported Tuesday. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said late Monday he expected Washington’s answer Tuesday on Tehran’s plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz after meeting Qatari mediators, France 24 reported; a U.S. official told Al Jazeera talks were “positive and constructive” but that there would be no agreement unless Iran’s nuclear program is addressed. Brent crude was about $106.77 a barrel early Tuesday, up about 1.4%, Reuters said, as Middle East supply worries persisted even as regional crude exports rebounded in September.
