Evening Wrap: Trump signs America.gov order; Rubio says first passports go fully online in 2027
President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed the executive order “Streamlining Access to Government Services Through America.gov,” directing the General Services Administration, the National Design Studio and OMB to establish America.gov as the single online point of entry for covered federal services, with agencies to integrate within 90 days. At the launch, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that “starting next year, Americans will be able to apply for their first passport entirely online,” demonstrating Login.gov sign-in, a phone or uploaded photo, and online payment, according to the State Department transcript. The White House fact sheet says Americans can already ask questions on the live site, with more transactions — including passport renewals — rolling out later this year.
