Mahmoud Khalil asks the Supreme Court to let federal judges hear his detention challenge now
Graphic: World Brief Now

Mahmoud Khalil, the Columbia University demonstrator whose arrest by ICE in March 2025 became a flash point, has asked the Supreme Court to decide whether he can challenge his detention in federal court before his separate immigration court proceedings end, the Washington Examiner reported. He is appealing a lower-court ruling that federal judges cannot consider his claims until the immigration process is complete; the Board of Immigration Appeals upheld an order that he be deported in April, the Daily Wire reported. The justices will consider whether to take the case at a private conference in the coming months, the Daily Wire said, citing The Hill.
