In a televised address Sunday, President Emmanuel Macron said 'nothing will excuse' the rioters' actions and 'those people who looted need to pay for their crimes,' and ordered more security around public buildings and businesses, Fox News reported. At least 2,400 people have been arrested nationwide, including 855 in the Paris region, and more than 500 police officers, gendarmes and firefighters were injured, the AP reported, citing Interior Minister Laurent Nunez; authorities said one protester died after suffering cardiac arrest in Paris. Macron has faced criticism for attending a Celine Dion concert on the eve of the protests, and a Le Figaro column called his past reprimands of police 'an indelible stain.'
