National Guard member shot in the leg while breaking up a fight on Capitol Hill; suspect also wounded

A National Guard member was shot in the leg Sunday night after seven or eight Guard members got out of a van to stop a fight in the Eastern Market neighborhood around 11:10 p.m., the New York Post reported, citing D.C. police. Interim Police Chief Jeffery Carroll said a man in the fight pulled a gun and fired at the Guard members after being told to drop it, and three Guard members returned fire, striking the suspect, Fox News and the Post reported. Both have non-life-threatening injuries, and police said there is no further threat to the public.
