The Canadian Armed Forces named the four members killed in the Oct. 17 fire at CFB Wainwright as Sgt. Morgan Wong and Privates Shaun Farrell, Aidan Goulding and Hayden Lykkemark, all serving with the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, and said 39 members were injured, according to a National Defence news release. The release said a fire ignited during live-fire training in Exercise APOLLO SHOOTER and high winds spread it rapidly over the unit's administrative area. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said at least 19 of the 39 hospitalized were in critical condition, and Maj.-Gen. Wade Rutland said the unit was training to deploy to Latvia next spring, Global News reported.
