Supreme Court to weigh Wednesday whether a 1987 video privacy law covers online newsletters

On Wednesday the Supreme Court hears Salazar v. Paramount Global, which asks whether and how the Video Privacy Protection Act applies in the internet era, SCOTUSblog reported. Congress passed the law after a 1987 newspaper story listed the videos Judge Robert Bork had rented; it bars a "video tape service provider" from knowingly disclosing a consumer's personally identifiable information. Michael Salazar sued after subscribing in 2022 to an email newsletter from 247Sports.com, a Paramount-owned college sports site.
