Archbishop Timothy Broglio, who oversees Catholic pastoral care for the U.S. military, said Monday that Catholics in the Army should request to be excused from the firing squad set to execute Nidal Malik Hasan, Fox News reported. Hasan, convicted of killing 13 people and wounding 32 at Fort Hood in 2009, is scheduled to be executed there on Dec. 3 at 1 p.m. CST, which would be the military's first firing-squad execution since 1945. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has proposed livestreaming it as a deterrent; Broglio asked whether exposing the public to it "serve[s] any purpose."
