Justices meet Friday on 14 relisted petitions, including police wrecking innocent people’s property and a Christian leafleter’s free-speech case

The Supreme Court has 100 cases and applications on the docket for its private conference Friday, 14 of them relists, SCOTUSblog’s John Elwood reported, including Institute for Justice petitions asking whether the Fifth Amendment’s takings clause requires compensation when police destroy an innocent person’s property while pursuing a suspect, such as Amy Hadley’s roughly $16,000 in damage after police searched her house for a fugitive who had never been there. Other relists include a Christian leafleter’s First Amendment case against Bossier City, Louisiana, a Title VI suit by Jewish students against MIT, and a challenge to California’s “implicit bias” requirement for medical education courses. The Court is closed Monday for the holiday, with orders expected Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. ET and arguments resuming Oct. 13 in Beaird v. United States and Oct. 14 in Salazar v. Paramount Global, according to SCOTUSblog and the Court’s October calendar.
