Pentagon tells Central Command to be ready to resume major combat in Iran; Trump has not decided, officials say
Graphic: World Brief Now

The Pentagon instructed U.S. Central Command several days ago to conclude preparations for resuming major combat operations in Iran, U.S. officials told Axios, though the directive set no date and President Trump has made no final decision; sources said renewed operations would include massive bombing of Iranian energy, infrastructure and nuclear targets. NBC News reported that Trump and his national security team have discussed options including strikes before next month’s midterm elections, and a White House official told Axios that Iran “has been decimated, and things will go one of two ways: the easy way or the hard way,” Gulf News reported. Vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz fell to its lowest level in more than two months after a surge in tanker attacks, Reuters reported citing shipping data, according to Iran International.
