Trump says he is ‘thinking about’ suspending the federal gas tax as gasoline averages $4.37

President Trump told reporters at the White House on Tuesday that he is considering suspending the federal gas tax, saying “We’re thinking about that,” after four states already did so, the New York Post reported. The tax adds 18.4 cents a gallon to gasoline and 24.4 cents to diesel, and suspending it would require Congress, which is not scheduled to return until after the election, the Post said. Citing AAA, the Post reported gasoline averages $4.37 a gallon, up from $3.13 a year ago, and diesel $6.32.
