Trump marks National Hunting and Fishing Day, cites orders expanding public-land hunting access
In a Sept. 26 presidential message on National Hunting and Fishing Day, President Donald Trump saluted American hunters and anglers as stewards of public lands and the outdoor economy, the White House said. The message highlighted signing the Great American Outdoors Act in his first term, unlocking more than 2.3 million acres for sportsmen, and a recent executive order he said reinvigorates hunting heritage by opening new hunting opportunities on federal lands, expanding Sunday hunting, and directing the Cabinet to work with states on game populations and youth and veteran incentives. Trump also pointed to an order aimed at restoring saltwater angling by cutting regulations on boaters and outdoor businesses, modernizing catch reporting, rebuilding stocks such as Atlantic striped bass, and turning retired offshore platforms into artificial reefs, and to reestablishing the Hunting and Shooting Conservation and Access Council.
