Update: Trump posts “Trump Strait” map as Iran still awaits a formal U.S. reply on Hormuz
President Donald Trump early Saturday posted a Truth Social map labeling the Strait of Hormuz the “Trump Strait,” the Associated Press reported, while the White House had yet to expand publicly on the post. The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed U.S. officials, reported Trump had privately rejected Iran’s seven-day plan to reopen the strait and resume nuclear talks if Washington lifts its naval blockade, waives oil sanctions and meets other conditions; a U.S. official told Al Jazeera Washington is in no hurry and sees itself in a strong position on the waterway. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Friday the choice “now rests with the United States,” and mediated talks through Qatar continued even as officials told the Journal Trump expects renewed bombing after November’s midterms.
