Nobel winner María Corina Machado makes a surprise return to Venezuela after nearly a year abroad
Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado returned home Sunday for the first time since December, writing "I'm here. With you all," as acting President Delcy Rodríguez, a longtime Maduro ally backed by the Trump administration, remains in power with no presidential election scheduled, Fox News reported. Asked about it in Port Huron, Michigan, President Trump said he didn't know about it but called her "a very nice woman" and said "I hope she's safe." Machado's return comes nearly 10 months after U.S. forces captured Nicolás Maduro.
