U.S. intelligence warns Iranian plots to kill Americans abroad have reached 'advanced stages'; Tehran vows to keep U.S. ships out of the Gulf

Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton warned Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a memo sent Friday that Iran has "substantially increased efforts to target U.S. personnel," with lethal plots at "advanced stages" in the Middle East and other countries, Fox News and CBS News reported. The State Department said it will reduce staffing at the U.S. embassies in Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar and the UAE, which remain open, CBS reported. On Saturday Iran's armed forces chief of staff Ali Abdollahi said U.S. military ships would not be allowed in the Persian Gulf "under any circumstances," according to Iranian state television.
